Adams intent on keeping Defoe

Tony Adams remains determined to keep Jermain Defoe and says there have been no bids for the Portsmouth striker.

Defoe's future at Fratton Park has been up for debate since Harry Redknapp left the club to take over at Tottenham Hotspur two months ago.

Redknapp has denied making an offer to lure Defoe back to White Hart Lane, but the financial uncertainty at Pompey means the England international could be the subject of January bids.

Lassana Diarra has already agreed to join Real Madrid and Pompey boss Adams does not want any players whose 'heads are turned' by possible moves to other clubs.

However, Adams has discussed the situation with Defoe and is hopeful that he will be able to hang on to the forward when the transfer window reopens.

"I don't think anyone's head has been turned yet, but I wanted to make it very clear because I have been in the situation before where you need to fight," said Adams in The News.

"There has been no question we haven't been fighting. I'm just saying, just in case it starts to creep in.

"As for Jermain Defoe, he will go where Jermain Defoe wants to go.

"I want him at the football club and spoke to him last week and have had no offers."
