Wigan manager Steve Bruce believes he is pole position to secure a permanent deal for Amr Zaki.
The striker has taken the Premier League by storm since arriving on a year-long loan from Egyptian club El Zamalek, scoring eight goals in his first 12 games.
But a recent statement from El Zamalek said that Zaki will be sold to the highest bidder in the summer, with Real Madrid understood to be admirers.
Bruce, though, insists he will do all he can to sign Zaki, and the Latics boss is adamant there is not a clause in the 25-year-old's contract which would see him leave in January.
"He is ours until the summer," Bruce said. "We have got that in black and white. He is not going to go anywhere.
"We will sit down with the representatives of his club when we feel the time is right. If we can thrash out a deal, then great. If we can't, we can't.
"He has had a good start here. He has done well, but we are only at the start of a year loan.
"We are in the driving seat (for securing a deal) because we have got him here playing with us."
