Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear was left ruing the first-half penalty awarded to Manchester City on Monday.
Just 12 minutes into the 2-2 draw at St James' Park, referee Rob Styles penalised Habib Beye for sliding in on Robinho - even through replays suggest he won the ball.
But Styles had a different opinion as he pointed to the spot before giving Beye his marching orders.
"He certainly got the ball first," insisted Kinnear.
"But it was a difficult one to call - if you are looking from the angle of behind you obviously would give a penalty but if you obviously look with the hindsight of television, you certainly can see it wasn't a penalty."
Kinnear says he has asked Styles to take a look at the sending-off again to see if he will rescind the red-card.
"I have been in to have a chat with him and he is prepared to look at it and he is going to let me know his views on four or five days, but we are hopeful," he said.
Despite being down to 10 men Newcastle came from behind to lead 2-1 before City grabbed a late equaliser.
Kinnear is now looking forward to this weekend's derby clash with local rivals Sunderland at The Stadium of Light.
"It is nice to go in having two games behind us undefeated. They are never easy, derbies," said the Irishman.
"It is going to be another big question, another tight game, another tough match.
"But the dressing room is on fire at the moment. Everyone is delighted with one another, has the utmost respect for one another, everybody is working for one another.
"We have got a lot of things going for us at the moment, and who's to say we might not have two or three more players back in the frame for that match, which would make us that little bit stronger."
