Club Career:
Previously to joining Dinamo Zagreb, Luka started his career at NK Zagreb, in his hometown where he got his youth training. Modric has been with Dinamo Zagreb since 2002, at the age of 16, however from 2003 to 2005 he was loaned out. During his first loan spell at the Bosnian Premier League, he performed so well that he was awarded “Bosnian League Player of the Year”, at the age of 18. He was quoted saying: “someone who can play in the Bosnian league can play anywhere”, referencing to the tough physical nature of the Bosnian league games.
For Zagreb, he usually played in central midfield, in a role of playmaker where his technical skill and ability to read the game were fully utilised. He was also promoted to captain of the team.

* 2005 - present: Dinamo Zagreb - 90 appearances - 27 goals
* April 26, 2008: transfer agreement with Tottenham Hotspur (English Premier League), subject to a medical test and receiving a work permit. Will join the Spurs in the summer of 2008.
International Career:
Modric played for the U-17, U-19 and U-21 youth teams of Croatia where he impressed Zlatko Kranjčar, coach of the Croatian national team at that time and was awarded with a promotion to the senior national team. He debuted in a friendly against Argentina in March 2006 in Switzerland, winning 3-2. In 2006 he was selected for the Croatian World Cup team and made two substitute appearances (for a total of 30 minutes play time) against Australia and Japan.
