Stoke midfielder Tom Soares is keen to earn more playing time at the Britannia Stadium after outlining his desire to stay at the club.
Soares made just eight appearances following a £1.5million move from Crystal Palace last summer and was farmed out on loan to Charlton in January after falling out of favour under Tony Pulis.
Soares recaptured some of his best form in his 11 outings for the Championship strugglers and the 22-year-old now wants to take that into pre-season with the Potters.
However, he has admitted that if he is clearly not part of Pulis' plans, then he will be forced to consider his options.
Soares told the Stoke Sentinel: "Going on loan helped me. I went to Charlton, did well and got some confidence back. Hopefully, I can take that into this season.
"I want to stay and fight for my place, but if I am in the same situation again, then myself and the manager will have to sit down and see where my future lies.
"Every player wants to be playing. But I am the only person who can put that right and I am looking forward to it."
Meanwhile, Potters boss Pulis will cast his eye over young defender Ryan Shotton during pre-season before deciding on another possible loan exit.
Shotton has spent long-term spells on loan with both Altrincham and Tranmere in the past two seasons having graduated from Stoke's academy.
The right-back was in regular action as Tranmere only missed out on the play-off places on the final day of the season and Pulis is keen to see how his young charge has developed.
"It seems that experience has done him the world of good," he said. "I'm hoping to see him come back to us stronger and more battle-hardened.
"We'll take a look at him in pre-season, maybe get him on the field in friendlies when we can, then take it from there.
"If I think he needs more first-team experience, then we'll try to get him out to the right club at the right level.
"It won't be about doing a club or a manager a favour, it will be all about what is best for Ryan at this stage of his young career."
