Burnley are keen to reward talented young midfielder Chris McCann with a lucrative new long-term contract at Turf Moor.
McCann played an integral role in helping the Clarets reach the Premier League, scoring six goals as an almost ever-present member of Owen Coyle's starting XI.
Having come through the ranks with Burnley, the 21-year-old is among the lower-paid members of Coyle's squad and has just 12 months to run on his current deal.
Clarets boss Coyle is keen to address both those issues as a matter of urgency and has already held initial talks with McCann's representative over a minimum new three-year stint, which will include a substantial wage increase.
"We want to sort something out for Chris," Coyle told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"First and foremost we want him on a long-term contract, but also one where he knows he's at the top end of our wage structure."
