Forest step up talent search

Nottingham Forest have upped their offer for Matthew Mills and are set to make a move for Gary McSheffrey.

The Reds saw an initial approach for Doncaster defender Mills knocked back, but are believed to have increased their bid to £2million.

Billy Davies' side are also reported to be weighing up an audacious £1.5m move for Birmingham forward McSheffrery.

The Blues ace enjoyed a spell on loan at the City Ground last season and has expressed a willingness to return, despite never being fully fit during his time on Trentside.

Sheffield United are also said to be keen on McSheffrey, while Birmingham could be prepared to use the former Coventry striker as a make-weight in a move for Sky Blues defender Scott Dann.

Forest are understood to face less opposition in their pursuit of Mills, but are yet to meet Doncaster's valuation.

Rovers are holding out for £2.5m for the ex-Manchester City man, but may yet be forced to accept a compromise figure as the 22-year-old admits he would be keen on a move to the City Ground.
