Owen Coyle has ended the uncertainty surrounding his future by signing a new long-term contract with Burnley.

The former St Johnstone boss, who guided the Clarets into the Premier League for the first ever time last season, has signed a deal until the end of the 2012/13 season.

Coyle had been strongly linked with a move to Celtic earlier in the summer, but the Bhoys opted to name Tony Mowbray as Gordon Strachan's replacement.

Burnley's operational director Brendan Flood is delighted Coyle has put pen-to-paper as he believes the 42-year-old has a great managerial career ahead of him.

"We are delighted to secure Owen's commitment to Burnley Football Club for a four year period until the end of 2012/13 season," Flood told the club's official website.

"Owen is a young manager with a great future, who will continue to revive the traditions of Burnley FC to develop young British talent and to play attractive football.

"As this year represents the club's 50th anniversary since we won the First Division, we are delighted that Owen will lead the club and its fans through one of the most exciting seasons in our history.

"The community has recognised Owen's qualities and we are sure everyone will welcome this news, so that we can now concentrate on our plans for a very successful season."
