Arsene Wenger insists his Arsenal side is not that far behind Manchester United in their development.
The Gunners have been piecing together a promising team for some time, but have yet to see that potential fulfilled.
Four years have passed since they last landed a major honour, with that barren spell giving cause for concern at Emirates Stadium.
Wenger, though, insists there are exciting times ahead for Arsenal and claims to have no regrets about the manner in which he has gone about trying to bring success back to north London.
"With my commitment, certainly not. I have worked harder than ever before this year," said the Frenchman.
"We have done with our resources as well as we can. I believe that we have a very promising team that can deliver very soon. I am confident about that.
"If you look at the statistics between Man Utd and us, we have scored similar amount of goals. We have conceded more but the passing and quality in the final third, we are as good as Man Utd.
"We have conceded more goals and that is where the difference lies. Offensively I don't believe there is a difference, but defensively there is a difference."
Wenger will be looking to eradicate the defensive problems this summer, with new faces expected at Ashburton Grove.
The Gunners could be about to break from tradition, though, with their manager revealing that he will be looking to add experience to his squad, rather than untested youngsters.
"We don't need more players without experience, if we get people it will be players with experience," he said.
Wenger has made it clear, however, that he will not be breaking the bank in order to bring in the required new recruits.
"I believe every manager has the same problem, to manage within his own resources," he said.
"I look now like I do not want to spend money, but I have nothing against spending money.
"I just feel we have a team who can be very competitive and we want, as always, to manage this club within its resources. I will do that.
"If you want me to get the club bust, I am not the person to do that, that is for sure."
