Major Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov has suggested the club need to 'step up' their transfer policy this summer.
The Gunners were condemned to a fourth successive trophyless season on Tuesday as they were brushed aside by Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger's transfer policy has since come under scrutiny, with the Frenchman championing youth over the years, reluctant to spend large sums on experienced personnel.
Much has been made of the gap in quality between Wenger's side and European champions United over the recent two legs, and now Usmanov, who owns 25 per cent of the club's shares, feels they must now spend lavishly to match their rivals.
"At times it was a bit like men against boys," said the Russian.
"Does the club need to take a step up? Of course. To be first in the world, to be first in Europe, you must have a much stronger bench.
"Look at United on Tuesday night. They had at least £100million in talent sitting on the bench."
