Tigers suffer Ashbee blow

Scans have revealed that Hull City captain Ian Ashbee has ruptured his posterior cruciate ligament.

The midfielder had to be replaced after just nine minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Monday night after picking up the knee injury in a challenge with James Milner.

The Tigers will not know the full extent of the problem until next week but manager Phil Brown accepts that he will be sidelined for some time.

"Ian is going to be out for a number of weeks with the injury," Brown said on the club's official website.

"However, further investigation is still required. We can't actually go in to have a look because of the wound that is on his knee at the moment.

"But the results of the scan say that he has got a ruptured PCL.

"We'll have further information when we put a scope in there and find out a little bit more, but we won't be able to do that for another seven days."

News of Ashbee's injury will come as a major blow to Hull as they look to secure their Premier League survival.

The Tigers face Stoke at the KC Stadium this weekend before meeting Bolton and Manchester United in their final two games.
