Stephen Ireland hopes to sign a new contract with Manchester City in the near future.
The midfielder has been in discussions over a fresh deal for some time and is happy with how things are progressing.
He is keen to resolve the matter in the early part of the summer but still has two years remaining on his current contract and has told supporters to stay patient.
Ireland, voted City's player of the season after a fantastic campaign, has always maintained that he is happy at the club and does not want to leave.
"I don't think the contract is a major issue for people to look at," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"I am going to be here regardless. I have more than two years left on my current deal so it is not close to running out or anything.
"We are in talks and, fingers crossed, if they go well it will all be done as soon as possible so I can enjoy the summer and look forward to pre-season."
Ireland has also voiced his support for manager Mark Hughes, who has had to cope with the weight of expectation in his first season at the helm.
There had been speculation that he could be replaced but club bosses have stressed that he will remain at the helm.
"He has had the players' backing because we know that in the long term he is the man for the job," said Ireland.
"I am really happy that the manager's future has been sorted out and happy for the club too because I know there might be doubts in people's heads right now, but in time they will realise he is the right man."
