Hughes highlights City appeal

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes does not believe failure to qualify for Europe would necessarily have an adverse effect on the club's transfer plans.

City, backed by the funds of owner Sheikh Mansour, are expected to bolster their ranks in the summer, and have already been linked with a number of big-name players.

However, the Eastlands side, who are currently 10th in the table, face a fight to finish in the final Europa League berth, and it is suggested failure to do so could jeopardise their bid to attract stars.

But Hughes, whose side tackle eighth-placed Tottenham on Saturday, does not feel this will be the case.

"European qualification might not be as great as many would suppose in terms of attracting new players," said the Welshman.

"From a team development position, we would rather have it and I guess some players will think it is really important to still have the profile of European football if they change clubs.

"But there are other things we can present to players that are interesting in their own right."

"If we can get the three points, it would set us up very nicely for our last game at home against Bolton.

"The idea is to be in a position where we are very much in the mix going into that final game."
