Brown answers FA charge

Hull City boss Phil Brown has confirmed that he has responded to his charge of improper conduct following the FA Cup quarter-final tie with Arsenal.

Brown was reprimanded for comments he made about referee Mike Riley in a post-match interview, while opposition player Cesc Fabregas also received improper conduct charges for entering the pitch and allegedly spitting at Hull assistant manager Brian Horton.

Both were given until 12th May to respond to the charges and Brown has now confirmed that he has been in contact with the FA.

"It is an inquiry, based on what went on in the FA Cup against Arsenal," Brown said.

"I cannot make any reference to it, but I have responded to the accusations and think I have every right to."

Meanwhile, Brown is happy that his Hull side will at least know where they stand when they line up to face Aston Villa on Monday - even if results do not go their way.

Victories for Middlesbrough and Newcastle would see Hull drop to 19th, but in the likely case that the duo cannot overcome Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, the Tigers will be handed a prime opportunity to steer clear of the drop spots at the start of the week.

"All along we have had our destiny in our hands and if we are in the bottom three on Monday it will be up to us to get out of it," remarked Brown.

"They are big asks for Newcastle and Middlesbrough but big things happen at this stage of the season.

"The advantage of Monday night is that we will know what we have to do. There are 72 teams outside the Premier League that would like to be in our position.

"There is still a lot to play for and it will be nice on Monday to know exactly where we are."

Worryingly though, Hull have won just twice in their previous 25 matches and have been in an almost constant freefall from the dizzy heights of third place that they rose to back in October.

Their style of football at that stage of the season earned them no shortage of plaudits, and even though the results have dried up, Brown remains determined to continue employing his attacking philosophy.

"It's trying to stay true to yourself and true to your beliefs," he added.

"I know there is a lot of negativity with regards to our form but I am looking around the training ground and am still looking at hungry players and players that are confident about the challenge ahead of us.

"We have got experienced players that can dig in when the going gets tough and hopefully those players will be on show and at their best on Monday."
