West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola expects to sign a new contract 'within the next few weeks' after watching his side earn a late point at Aston Villa.
The Italian revealed on Friday that he was in discussions at Upton Park, amid reports that his 12-month rolling deal is to be converted to a four-year agreement, and that he was waiting to make a decision.
But after watching his side battle back against Villa to maintain plans for a place in the Europa League, Zola has confirmed that he could put pen-to-paper before the end of the season.
"We are talking about that," Zola told Sky Sports when asked about extending his stay in East London.
"Both parties are willing to do that and I think that within the next few weeks it will happen."
West Ham snatched a point in a highly-entertaining encounter against European rivals Villa as Diego Tristan's 85th minute goal cancelled out Emile Heskey's first-half opener.
And after watching his creative side more than hold their own in the Midlands, Zola - who replaced Alan Curbishley in September - is confident his team can become a force to be reckoned with in the top-flight.
"I was really pleased with the result and with the way the team tried to win after Villa scored," added the former Chelsea forward.
"I had a feeling that something was coming for us because we had so many chances. It was a wonderful game, I really enjoyed it.
"This has been our trademark this year. We are getting better and better and this team will become an important team in the future of the Premier League."
