RVP confident of Gunners stay

Robin van Persie believes there is a 'big chance' he will pen a new contract at Arsenal this summer.

The Holland international has been in talks with the Gunners hierarchy for some time with regards extending his North London stay.

Van Persie has 15 months left on his existing Emirates contract, but Arsenal are keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract in order to fight off the possible threat of his leaving under the Bosman ruling.

The former Feyenoord man has confirmed talks with the club have been positive and that he is hopeful of putting pen-to-paper on a new contract by the end of the season.

"We've had a couple of meetings now in a really positive atmosphere," Van Persie explained in the Daily Mirror.

"The main thing in these things is whether you both have the intention to 'extend' but the way I see it is that we both have the intention to extend so there's a big chance that I will stay.

"We are talking about a new deal, not now because as I read in the paper, the boss doesn't want us to speak about it anymore. That's his opinion, no problems with that. We'll wait.

"We'll go on with the meetings at the end of the season. I have a deal here, I do respect that and what happens after my deal I don't know because we're still talking."
