Pulis backs Lawrence impact

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis is hoping that Liam Lawrence can build on his match-winning display last week to guide the club to a strong finish in the Premier League.

Lawrence has spent much of the season on the sidelines with a series of injuries, meaning that the winner against Blackburn was only his second goal of the season.

It may have been long overdue, but the importance of the goal cannot be underestimated, having lifted Stoke on to 39 points and led many to suggest that the Potters are now clear of the drop.

Still not convinced of survival though, Pulis is continuing to demand committed performances from his Stoke side - and in particular Lawrence.

"Goals always give players a lift," said the Pulis of the midfielder's 75th minute clincher.

"I am sure Liam will be desperate to perform in the last five games as he has had injury problems.

"He has missed a good chunk of the season. Now he looks fresh and gives us good options in wide areas."
