Martin O'Neill wants his Aston Villa side to finish the campaign as strongly as possible in order to avoid undoing their good work in the first half of the campaign.
Villa had been challenging for a UEFA Champions League spot and were involved in both the Uefa Cup and FA Cup, but a slump in form has put paid to their chances of success.
A run of just two points from seven league outings has seen Villa slip to fifth in the table and allowed David Moyes' Everton to close to within a point of the Midlands outfit.
O'Neill has not been overly disappointed with his side's performances of late, but insists they must get back to winning ways in order to ensure the campaign can be classed as worthwhile.
"It's up to us now to really get back in track in terms of results," he told Sky Sports News. "In that poorish run some of the performances have not been bad at all.
"We completely dominated Tottenham in the first half of our game. We found ourselves a goal behind and within three minutes of the second half two behind.
"There are undoubtedly moments where we didn't play well at all, but it's up to us. We've got the ability. I think we've shown enough character throughout the year.
"We've stayed there with the top four. We've actually been in that position for a few weeks. It's up to us now to go and fight back to make the season end worthwhile."
