Mowbray ready to wield axe

Tony Mowbray has told his players to make sure they perform in training if they want to remain in the West Brom side.

The Baggies suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Stoke on Saturday, with Ricardo Fuller and James Beattie netting the goals.

Mowbray warned after the match that he did not want to see any head drops and he has now made it clear that he would be prepared to make changes.

West Brom are currently bottom of the table and eight points from safety, with just seven games remaining.

Mowbray only wants to use players who are prepared to battle and has challenged everyone in the squad to show what they can do before the next match against Portsmouth.

"We had a good long chat in the dressing room and they were obviously down and disappointed," Mowbray said in the Express & Star.

"But training starts again today and I have said that I won't tolerate anybody whose head drops in training. I've got enough people who weren't even stripped on Saturday and would like a shot at Premier League.

"You get judged and put in the team based on how you perform in training, your body language and the way you apply yourself. Moving on we will see what the team is next weekend."
