Lawrence staying grounded

Liam Lawrence insists Stoke City must keep doing the basics despite taking a giant leap towards Premier League safety at the weekend.

Saturday's priceless 1-0 success over Blackburn at the Britannia Stadium has moved Tony Pulis' troops just a point shy of the magical 40-point mark.

Although the Potters are eight points clear of the bottom three with five games left Lawrence wants one more win to secure their top-flight status.

"I think we still need another win," he told The Sentinel.

"We are not safe until it's mathematically certain, so we'll keep doing the right things and getting the wins.

"If we are safe with a few games to go, we still want to win as many games as we can to keep proving the people who kept writing us off wrong.

"It's unbelievable to think we can finish there when the bookies have paid out on us being relegated after losing our first match of the season.

"If Stoke finish mid-table, that's some achievement. We're only a couple of wins off Europe. Stoke City in Europe next season... imagine that."
