Jordan - Change is inevitable

Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan believes that the arrival of the Premier League Two is 'inevitable'.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside proposed plans to have two 18-strong Premier League divisions on Thursday with Palace likely to be one of the teams asked to compete in the new second Premier League division.

The Trotters chief is also set to invite Old Firm pair Celtic and Rangers to take part in the radical new set-up.

It remains to be seen whether Jordan supports such a move as he admits that he is yet to be won over by the idea.

"Change is inevitable. Evolution will take place," he told the Sunday Mirror.

"Before this is formally presented it needs to be thought through with a set of rules, objectives and the criteria, joining clubs need to meet.

"To create a new league the criteria on performance, size of club and capacity will undoubtedly come into play."

The plans have come in for criticism from Football League clubs with Gartside proposing that only one team will get relegated from Premier League Two every season and Jordan believes more people need to get behind the process for it to be a success.

"Phil is a stooge for other people who are putting him forward. For this to work there must be more desire," he added.

"Certain people should be pushing from the front. Chief executive Richard Scudamore and Dave Richards (chairman) want the Premier League expanded.

"Football evolves and because of the economic situation there is more desperation."
