Phil Jagielka may miss the FA Cup final after he was stretchered off with a knee injury during Everton's defeat to Manchester City.
The centre-back seemed to fall awkwardly after a challenge and was left writhing in agony on the Goodison Park turf.
Everton manager David Moyes stated that the club would wait for confirmation on the severity of the injury but revealed that the early signs are not good.
"It's not great news at the moment so we'll wait for confirmation but it it's not looking awfully good at the moment," he told Sky Sports.
"I think at the moment you'd have to say that it'll be more doubtful than hopeful."
The Toffees slumped to a rare home defeat against Mark Hughes' side, having to play out the match with ten men as Jagielka's injury occurred after the hosts had used up all three substitutions.
Moyes recognised that his side were tired after their FA Cup and Stamford Bridge exploits over the past week but was upset with the defeat nonetheless.
He said: "We're disappointed but the players have put in a great effort over the week so maybe this one was always going to be difficult for us but you're always disappointed when you lose."
The Scottish tactician also felt his side should have been awarded penalties in the second-half for incidents involving Marouane Fellani and Richard Dunne.
"I thought it (the ball) hit Richard Dunne's hand and the back of his arm," Moyes added.
"I'm sure it's not intentional but if it stops it going to our player, it's a penalty kick. The arms around Fellaini in the box: if you do that on the half-way line that would be a free-kick.
"We need to know why that isn't given as a penalty kick, if you put your two arms around somebody's neck."
