Interest mounts in Zigic

Towering Serbian striker Nikola Zigic is reported to be attracting interest from across Europe.

The giant frontman is currently on loan at Racing Santander, with his services deemed surplus to requirements by parent club Valencia.

He has enjoyed a successful spell away from the Mestalla, rediscovering his touch in front of goal and drawing admiring glances from afar.

It now looks likely that he will be on the move once again this summer, but on a more permanent basis.

There are no shortage of clubs willing to take Zigic, with Valencia's sporting director Fernando Gomez admitting the battle to land his signature looks set to be keenly-fought.

"Some clubs have already asked about his situation," he said.

"The subject is on hold until the end of the season, but Zigic is interesting many clubs in Spain and abroad."

Blackburn and Stoke both came close to landing Zigic last summer, while Aston Villa are also reported to be keen on taking the 28-year-old to England.

The Premier League would be of interest to the much-travelled forward, but he insists that the issue remains in the hands of his current employers.

"Valencia hold the key to my future and I will make a decision on what to do next after meeting with the club in June," said Zigic.

"I am happy in Spain but I need to play regularly and that has proven difficult at Valencia.

"I will only leave for a club that has ambition and where I will get the opportunity to play.

"England? That is a serious option for me."
