Phil Brown refused to admit there is a crisis at Hull after they slumped to another defeat against relegation rivals Sunderland.
Djibril Cisse scored the only goal of the game just before half-time, extending Hull's miserable run in the league to one win in 17.
But Brown insisted that his side will beat the drop if they continue to show the level of commitment they displayed against the Black Cats on Saturday.
"We're not in the bottom three, and if that continues between now and the end of the season we'll be fine. That's obvious," he told Sky Sports.
"People on the outside looking in are saying there's a worry. Today there weren't worrying signs, there was a committed performance.
"If we get that next week and for the next five games I'll be happy."
The boyhood Sunderland supporter thought that Hull deserved a point from the contest and conceded that the match lacked Premier League quality.
He added: "It was a well-fought contest, there's no doubt about it. I don't think either team deserved to win.
"The fans from both sides can go home fairly happy with the commitment but that little bit of quality that is required in top-flight football was missing today."
Brown did not criticise referee Mike Dean for allowing Cisse's goal to stand despite suspicions that the French striker was offside.
Instead he focused on the efforts of his own team, praising them for coming back into the game in the second-half after conceding on the stroke of half-time.
"As far as I'm concerned it is a difficult one," he said.
"You're hoping that the linesman will get it right, you're hoping that the referee will get it right but there is a degree of difficulty there's no doubt about it.
"You've got to dust yourselves down, if the decision goes against you you've got to get on with it, which we did in the second-half."
