Tottenham 4 - 0 Middlesbrough

Tottenham showed no Carling Cup fatigue as they battered Middlesbrough 4-0 on Wednesday night.

Harry Redknapp's Spurs responded in the best possible fashion to their penalties defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, by putting four past a Boro side which enjoyed a memorable win at home to Liverpool on Saturday.

Robbie Keane scored his first goal in his second spell for the club, Roman Pavlyuchenko added a second and Aaron Lennon sealed the match with a brace to move the home side closer to safety after starting the match two points above the relegation zone.

Boro striker Tuncay had two goals chalked off for offside in a contest that Gareth Southgate's side had enough opportunities to get something out of, but some sloppy defending cost them dear as they slip to 19th.

It was just the response boss Redknapp wanted after losing on penalties to United, a clash Keane was cup-tied for after playing three minutes earlier in the competition for Liverpool.

That was part of an unhappy six months at Anfield - but he helped erase those memories with the opener in the ninth minute.
