Robinson slams team-mates

Paul Robinson has criticised his West Brom team-mates by declaring that some of them need to show more "pride and passion".

It is an accusation that cannot be made of the 30-year-old, whose robust and hard-hitting style of play has seen manager Tony Mowbray name him captain in Jonathan Greening's absence in recent weeks.

The Baggies find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League and have been cast adrift of late with six points now between themselves and safety.

Despite the club receiving praise from most of the sides they come up against for their style of play, Robinson feels that some players need to raise their game.

"The supporters deserve more and as the players we deserve more out of each other," he said.

"There are a few out there who need to wear the shirt with a little bit more pride and passion and commit themselves to this club a bit more.

"I would like to see a bit more passion and commitment. I think we have lacked that. I am not afraid to say it. It shouldn't bother me to say it.

"I think a few more players should stand up and come out and say it themselves, that they should be more committed to the club and they should be fighting for the cause a bit more."

The former Watford man has experienced relegation with the Baggies before in 2006 and believes that his side are good enough to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

"We shouldn't be in this position and we know we shouldn't. You can only say what you can," he added.

"They can either take it to help them or they can take it as a criticism, but at the end of the day you are only trying to help your team-mates.

"If they take it the wrong way then that's their problem."
