Portsmouth 2 - 1 Everton

Portsmouth claimed a crucial victory in their battle against relegation as they came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 at Fratton Park.

Leighton Baines broke the deadlock with a magnificent free-kick after just four minutes but Pompey have become increasingly resilient under Paul Hart and they responded strongly.

Peter Crouch made good use of his height to equalise in the 22nd minute and the giant striker then powered home his second header of the afternoon to put Portsmouth ahead with 15 minutes remaining.

Everton looked to put the hosts under pressure in the closing stages but could not find a goal and Sean Davis came close to netting a third for Pompey as he struck the post from distance.

Portsmouth held on to pull further clear of trouble and dent Everton's hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League spot.
