Morrison - We must improve

West Brom midfielder James Morrison says his side must improve defensively if they are to avoid relegation.

The 22-year-old admitted his side looked devoid of ideas in defeat to Arsenal last time out, a result which has left the Baggies six points adrift of the safety zone.

That gap could increase before Monday's trip to Upton Park, where the Midland's club will be in search of just their second away win.

Admitting defensive errors have been the main issue this term, Morrison says his side must tighten up at the back if they are to maintain their Premier League status.

"We spent almost two hours poring over the Arsenal game to see exactly where we went wrong and how we can put it right," he said.

"As always, there was a healthy and frank exchange of words, with both the coaching staff and players chipping in.

"We did a lot of defensive work when we were out in Spain recently but, if you don't take it into the matches, it doesn't count for much.

"To be fair, we've been working on it for months because it's been the biggest problem this year. I'm sick of talking about it. That's why we're bottom."

Morrison admits his side face an uphill task if they are to maintain their Premier League status.

"We now need to grind out wins," he said. "With only 10 games to go the pressure is really on.

"It's not nice for anyone involved with the club - especially the fans - and it's difficult to play at the moment because of the position we are in.

"But we've got to deal with it."
