Lopez reveals English offers

Argentine star Maxi Lopez has revealed that he had offers to move to England in January.

The 24-year-old moved back to his native South America after joining Brazilian side Gremio.

Lopez ended a four-year stint in Europe which began when Barcelona signed him from River Plate, before spells with Mallorca and FC Moscow.

Lopez revealed he had offers from across Europe, but Moscow made the deal difficult and so he agreed to move to Gremio.

"The Brazilian market was the only one that was open, the negotiations with the Russians were really hard because they waited until the last moment for another opportunity," Lopez told Ole.

"I received proposals from England, France and Italy but the Russians spoiled the negotiations."

Lopez is hoping he can recapture some form with Gremio and that he might catch the eye of Argentina coach Diego Maradona.

"I came to Brazil, it was for being more in touch with South American football. I want Maradona to see me," he said.

"It is obvious that I didn't have the same performances in Europe that I did in Argentina.

"I want to perform well here and in the Copa Libertadores, and then I could have the chance to return to Europe.

"I would like to repeat at Gremio what I did at River."
