Newcastle striker Mark Viduka has suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury.
The Australia international, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been badly hampered by groin and hamstring injuries this season.
Viduka has made just one Premier League start for the St James' Park side this term and was ruled out of Wednesday's home defeat by Manchester United by his latest setback.
Coach Chris Hughton, who is at the helm while manager Joe Kinnear recovers from heart surgery, is confident the former Middlesbrough and Leeds forward will be back in action soon.
Hughton told the club's official website: "It's just a minor injury which Mark picked up in training.
"It kept him out of the Manchester United game but we don't expect him to be out for too long."
Wednesday's defeat by the Red Devils leaves the Magpies just one point above the relegation zone and facing a battle to preserve their Premier League status.
