Greening backs Robinson rant

Jonathan Greening believes Paul Robinson was correct to accuse some West Bromwich Albion players of lacking 'pride and passion'.

Last week, Robinson, who operated as stand-in captain during Greening's recent injury absence, announced that some of the Baggies squad needed to show more commitment in their fight against Premier League relegation.

Greening has now echoed the sentiments of his colleague and has called for a cohesive effort as last season's Championship winners look to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.

"Robbo wears his heart on his sleeve and wants everyone to do well," said the midfielder in the Daily Star.

"He has high standards in training and in matches, and if someone slips down from that, he is one of those guys who likes to have a go. That is totally right."

But in the wake of Monday's hard-fought 0-0 draw at West Ham, which leaves Tony Mowbray's rock-bottom side six points from safety, Greening sees reasons for optimism.

"Everyone has to give 120 per cent. If everyone does that, we have a chance of staying up. We have to work hard and stay together," he added.

"We went to West Ham with a plan and did quite well. We had a few chances to win the game, but maybe we will look back and think that was quite a good point.

"We will need to show the same kind of determination until the end of the season now."
