Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has denied diving to win a penalty during Sunday's draw with Sunderland.
Taylor helped win Newcastle the penalty which earned them a crucial 1-1 draw with local rivals Sunderland at St James' Park.
The England Under 21 international went down in the box under a challenge from Steed Malbranque allowing Shola Ameobi to equalise.
The decision infuriated Sunderland's players and management team, but Taylor insists he did not dive and con referee Howard Webb.
"The referee gave the decision and we scored," Taylor told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
"During the week, we didn't get a penalty against Manchester City, so what goes around comes around.
"He's touched my back leg. There was some contact, and I seemed to lose my footing and went down."
Taylor believes the point could prove vital to Newcastle's fight against relegation
"It's a point and, when you look how tight the bottom is, it could be a crucial point," added Taylor.
