Manchester City's Micah Richards has 'vigorously' denied any wrongdoing following an allegation of assault.

Richards was questioned by police earlier this week over the alleged assault of a man in Hale, Greater Manchester, on Christmas Eve.

Richards has been bailed until April and the 20-year-old has protested his innocence in a statement released on his offical website.

The statement read: "We can confirm that Micah Richards has fully co-operated with police as they continue their investigations, and attended a police station on Wednesday for what was a pre-arranged appointment.

"Micah has the full support of Manchester City Football Club, and will continue to assist police with their enquiries as and when required.

"Micah vigorously denies any wrongdoing."
