Liverpool have confirmed that Robbie Keane has been given permission to speak to Tottenham over a possible return to White Hart Lane.
Spurs had lodged an improved bid for the Republic of Ireland international.
Keane is travelling to London and will now undergo a medical with Harry Redknapp's side ahead of his proposed swift return to North London.
The Anfield outfit insist that no fee has yet been agreed between the two clubs for Keane, who moved to Merseyside for £18million in the summer.
But with permission given for the former Wolves, Inter Milan and Leeds player to discuss personal terms, it appears more likely that the deal will be concluded before Monday's 5pm deadline.
A Liverpool spokesman told the club's official website: "We've allowed Robbie to talk to Spurs but we've not yet finalised a deal with them for the player."
Redknapp has never hidden his admiration for Keane, who has struggled to find his feet with Liverpool and has scored just seven goals in 27 appearances.
Rafa Benitez did not include the forward in his squad for Sunday's 2-0 victory over Chelsea and has often opted to leave him kicking his heels on the bench.
