Moyes praises Jagielka

Everton manager David Moyes has praised defender Phil Jagielka after his performance in the FA Cup win over Liverpool on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old was immense at the heart of the Toffees defence as Dan Gosling fired Everton to an extra-time win over their derby rivals.

The former Sheffield United ace has marshalled Liverpool danger man Fernando Torres superbly during the last three meetings between the sides in recent weeks.

Moyes believes his player's form is deserving of an England call-up for next week's friendly with Spain, and another potential meeting with Torres.

"I think at the moment Phil Jagielka looks unbeatable," he enthused.

"There were moments in the game when I think Torres thought 'I just can't get past him, he's too strong and too quick'.

"I thought his performance was excellent."

With injuries highlighting the lack of depth to his squad, Moyes gave 17 year-old Jack Rodwell an opportunity to shine off the bench alongside Gosling.

Although Gosling will get all the headlines, Rodwell put in an assured display and the former Preston boss believes this can only spur the club's other youngsters to go on and gain first team honours.

"The boys at Everton know they will get opportunities," he added.

"If you are a young player just now you would be saying 'There's two boys coming on in a derby FA Cup tie and one of them scores a goal'.

"It is the stuff dreams are made of. Good luck to these young boys. If they show me enough in training I'll put them in the team.

"We don't have a massive squad which stops these boys developing so we'll try to get them in and get a game."
