Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has expressed his mixed emotions over the news that his red card against Liverpool has been rescinded.
The Blues were drawing 0-0 at Anfield when Lampard was dismissed for a challenge on Xabi Alonso.
Liverpool eventually claimed a 2-0 win with a late brace from Fernando Torres, but the announcement that Lampard has avoided a ban will do little to soften the blow of a potentially costly defeat in the title race.
"It's good that I can move on, but a shame that we lost the game because of it," Lampard told Sky Sports News.
"I presumed it would be rescinded anyway so I was quite confident about that.
"It was obviously a mistake, we all make mistakes. Footballers make mistakes just as much as anyone - and the referee did."
Many have suggested that Lampard's sending-off was the moment that tilted the game in Liverpool's favour, and as a result the inevitable calls for video refereeing have been voiced in the aftermath.
However, Lampard feels that decisions like his dismissal could easily be better made by utilising the officials that are already in place.
"It's very difficult to keep stopping the game for any foul and then you open up a big door to look at any foul that happens and that's very difficult," said Lampard, when questioned about the possibility of in-game video refereeing.
"All I think it needs is the referees to be given time to consult the other officials. There are four of them now so they're getting different angles on it.
"And to use common sense. I think with the players that don't necessarily go around kicking and trying to hurt people, you have to understand that, even if you're at the wrong angle, a player's not trying to hurt people."
