Guus Hiddink does not expect to become Chelsea's new manager before the weekend but will give a final answer in 'a few days'.
The Blues are looking to appoint a replacement for Luiz Felipe Scolari as quickly as possible after dismissing the Brazilian on Monday.
They have been granted permission by the Russian Football Union to speak with Hiddink about a temporary arrangement until the end of the season.
Hiddink has no intention of walking away from his position as coach of Russia but he has been given the option to combine both roles.
The Dutchman is open to the idea but maintains that it is too early to say for certain that a deal will be done.
"I want to say officially that there has been absolutely no talk of me leaving the Russian national team," Hiddink told Sport Express.
"I will stay and continue working with a team I feel very comfortable and at ease with."
When asked if he could combine both high-profile jobs, Hiddink replied: "You correctly use the word "if".
"I can't rule out that option but it is at the stage of being examined. If everything is organised properly a move to London could happen.
"I'll be able to give you a final answer in a few days."
Hiddink insists there is not much chance of him taking charge for Chelsea's FA Cup fifth round tie against Watford on Saturday.
He said: "No, that's not likely to happen. I don't think things will be decided that quickly."
