Portsmouth caretaker manager Paul Hart believes that experienced coach Brian Kidd will be crucial in their fight to beat the drop.
Kidd was assistant manager at Manchester United during the mid-1990s, training the likes of Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes early in their careers.
Now he will help out his old friend Hart while Pompey search for a permanent successor to Tony Adams.
"I think Brian is, without question, one of the top coaches in the country," Hart told The News.
"We've never worked together before but over the years had many, many phone calls and talks about football as well as asking his advice.
"'He's a cracking coach with bags of experience, and brought through the biggest players at the biggest club.
"He was the first person I thought about when I was asked if I would help out. He's had lots of offers so I am very fortunate he's come. It's a strength of our belief in each other.
"It was absolutely my decision and I think we will all benefit from it."
Kidd also had a short spell as assistant coach of England but had to quit the role when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Hart is delighted that a coach with a proven pedigree will be helping out at Fratton Park.
"For me, his record speaks for itself, it's there for everybody to see. He's coached England and the biggest club in the country: Manchester United," he added.
"He's managed at the highest level as well. What people forget is Brian rekindled the youth development programme at Manchester United.
"At that time, Manchester City were getting all the best kids and he was appointed first in the community and then eventually moved up.
"Brian instigated it and got it going again, and did such a good job Sir Alex moved him up with him. What a fantastic group of players and that legacy still continues."
