Harry unsure on Defoe injury

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is unsure how long striker Jermain Defoe is facing out of action.

The England international, who rejoined the club from Portsmouth this month, picked up a mystery foot injury in training on Thursday which is believed to be a broken foot.

A club spokesman stated Defoe should not be injured for more than a month, but Redknapp says an initial scan has proved inconclusive.

"He's having another scan. He's got quite a nasty injury," said Redknapp. "We're not sure how long he's going to be out. We hope it's not long."

With Defoe sidelined, Redknapp says there is little chance of Darren Bent leaving after he was the subject of loan bids from rival clubs.

"We've only got three strikers and Darren's got 14 goals," he continued. "We need him here at the moment. We're very short with Jermain being out now."

Bent emerged off the bench to grab a brace for Spurs at Bolton, but it was not enough for Redknapp's side as they lost 3-2 at The Reebok.

Redknapp was pleased with his side's second-half display in battling back from two goals down, but admits his team cannot continue conceding late winners away from home to relegation rivals.

"We were completely dominating the game at that stage. There was only one winner. That's the last four away games where that's happened to us.

"We've given teams that are down there struggling three vital points. We can't keep doing that unfortunately. They had two efforts on goal in the second half and scored twice.

"What can you do? It's disappointing. They are dangerous on set plays.

"Our second-half performance today was every bit as good as it was against Stoke, but we've come away with nothing."
