Shay Given has hit out at Newcastle's hierarchy after being unveiled by Manchester City.
Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Given completed his protracted switch to Eastlands last weekend after asking to quit the Magpies.
Given is excited at the prospect of helping City fulfil their ambitions and admits he did not enjoy his final few weeks on Tyneside.
He told Sky Sports News: "I felt Newcastle could have dealt with it a little bit better, to be honest, but I am delighted to be here now. It is a great opportunity for me.
"It is a fantastic club I am joining with great ambition and I am delighted they have brought me to the club.
"It is nearly 12 years of my life (at Newcastle), it is a long time and I would like to thank the supporters and fans. The support they have given me over the years has been absolutely phenomenal.
"I just felt after being there nearly 12 years and the service I gave the club the regime could have looked after the whole thing a little bit better and they made me do things I didn't want to do in the end.
"I felt this was a great opportunity to further my career and hopefully pick up some silverware. I felt they (Newcastle) could have dealt with it a lot better and I was disappointed the way the regime handled things.
"It is a difficult time for Newcastle, they are in a difficult period and the fans deserve better. They are extremely loyal supporters and I wish them well.
"This is a new chapter in my life at Manchester City and I am very excited and looking forward to the challenge."
Given admits the defeat to Liverpool over the Christmas period made him consider his future conceding it was one of the lowest points of his career.
"In the last six months it has been fizzling out," added Given.
"It has not been enjoyable going into training. Maybe it's myself just being selfish, but I think I deserved a little bit better than that.
"The Liverpool match was a low point in my career.
"It was one of those points where if I had left the pitch and never seen a football again I would have been happy I was that low.
"I didn't know if I was going to leave but a lot of people said I was happy and settled which, I was in a way, but I wasn't comfortable.
"I wasn't comfortable with the way the club was going. I wanted to be challenging for honours.
"By coming here I thought I could be at a club that is challenging for honours. I didn't want to finish my career regretting not taking up this offer, I'm an ambitious guy and I want to do the best I can in such a short career."
