West Ham midfielder Julien Faubert has joined Real Madrid on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent deal.
The Hammers confirmed on Friday evening that Faubert, who moved to Upton Park from Bordeaux in July 2007 for £6million, had been given permission to speak to the Spanish giants over a possible move.
The 25-year-old passed a medical with Real on Saturday morning and will be officially presented on Monday.
"Real Madrid and West Ham United have reached an agreement for the loan of the French player Julien Faubert until the end of this season," read a statement on Real's official website.
"The signed deal establishes a loan move until June 30, the date in which the technical staff of the club will decide if it suits them to exercise a right to buy the player for the next three years.
"Faubert, who successfully passed the medical this morning, will be presented in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Monday February 2 at 11 o'clock."
Faubert endured a frustrating start to his Upton Park career as he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon shortly after signing which kept him on the sidelines for six months.
He has been unable to force his way into Gianfranco Zola's plans in recent weeks and spoke to the Hammers boss about a possible move away from the club.
A initial loan deal with Real has now been struck, with the La Liga outfit paying £1.5million to West Ham to secure Faubert's services for the remainder of the season.
Should they decide to make the move permanent in the summer, it is thought that a fee of £4.5million has been set between the two clubs.
