Dunga offers Scolari backing

Brazil boss Dunga believes his compatriot Luiz Felipe Scolari was not given enough time to bring success to Chelsea.

World Cup winner Scolari was dismissed by Chelsea on Monday following a poor run of form, at home in particular, that has seen the club drop to fourth in the table, seven points behind league leaders Manchester United.

While Dunga, in England ahead of Brazil's midweek friendly with Italy, accepts only Sir Alex Ferguson enjoys an untouchable status, he still feels Chelsea have acted in undue haste.

Scolari was sacked by Chelsea earlier on Monday after little over seven months in charge at Stamford Bridge.

"In football you need quality and Scolari is an established trainer despite the fact that he was sacked today," said Dunga.

"There's no doubt about his skills, he's a world champion and so you cannot doubt that.

"(Manchester United coach) Alex Ferguson is unique, he is the only one who has been in charge for many years.

"European football and Brazilian football trainers have not enough time to train and to get to know each other, so it's difficult.

"It's a question of time."

Dunga believes it is only a matter of time before Scolari is back in a job.

"I have no doubt that he will find a new job because he is a world champion," he added. "He is an established coach.

"He won with Palmeiras and with the national team. There is no doubt about his quality."
