Didier Drogba is hoping to rediscover his best from under the guidance of Guus Hiddink.
The Chelsea striker endured a difficult period towards the end of Luiz Felipe Scolari's reign at Stamford Bridge, regularly finding himself restricted to a substitute role.
The Ivorian admits his failure to tie down a starting spot had begun to frustrate him, with speculation resurfacing regarding his long-term future at the Blues.
However, the talismanic frontman was returned to the side for Saturday's FA Cup win at Watford and is now hoping to play an integral role in Hiddink's first-team plans.
"I don't want to talk about the Scolari departure," Drogba told L'Equipe.
"We have to look to the future, we have some big matches coming up. We must remain focused.
"The match against Watford? It felt so good to start a match again!
"That is the best way for me to find my best form. If you want to improve your physical shape, it is always better to be playing matches.
"I didn't enjoy my time out of the team, because that would mean that I lack ambition. I can't say that it was not disappointing.
"I gave my all to get back, though, and now it is up to me to show that I deserve to be on the pitch."
Drogba was paired alongside Nicolas Anelka at the weekend and believes he is capable of forming a formidable partnership with the Frenchman.
"My partnership with Nicolas Anelka? There is something special between us," he added.
"We are clever enough to know how to play together.
"It had been a long time since he had scored (prior to Saturday) and then he scores three in one match. I hope that will boost his confidence because the team needs him."
