Davis loyal to Pompey cause

Sean Davis has pledged to give his all to keep Portsmouth in the Premier League - despite being out of contract in three months time.

Amid the turmoil enveloping Fratton Park, Davis is one of several players at Portsmouth whose futures beyond the summer remain unclear.

Sol Campbell, Hermann Hreidarsson, Noe Pamarot and Kanu have all been left in the dark by the club's hierarchy, and Davis admits that he too is unsure over his future.

"I was left out of the cup final squad last year and then Celtic came in for me in the summer. I heard the club had accepted a £3million bid and it seemed they were trying to get rid of me then, but I didn't want to leave the Premier League - or Portsmouth - and nothing more developed on that," he said.

"I got back into the side and when I heard they had turned down a £3million offer from Bolton in the January window I thought they would soon be knocking on my door offering me a new contract but there have been no more talks and nothing is signed.

"I guess now everything is going to get sorted out in the summer but I want to stay here no matter what division we are in. And my main focus now is trying to help keep Pompey up."

A resolution to Davis' future had seemed close at hand during Tony Adams' spell as manager, but following the coach's recent dismissal, talks have once again ground to a halt.

"I had a lot of time for Tony and he said he liked my attitude," added Davis.

"He wanted to offer me a new contract but we hadn't agreed anything and now that he's gone it feels like I am back at square one.

"It's been the same for about 15 months and I'm still a bit upset that nothing has been sorted out but, hopefully, I will keep my form and help us stay up."
