Adams - I'm under no pressure

Tony Adams has insisted he is still wanted at Portsmouth and is enjoying his managerial duties at Fratton Park.

The pressure is mounting on the Pompey boss as his side have only won six times since lifting the FA Cup, leaving them just three points above the relegation zone.

However an away win at Fulham in their next Premier League game could see Portsmouth leapfrog to 10th spot as Adams dismisses claims he is the next manager in line for the chop at Fratton Park.

"People want me here. The owner (Sacha Gaydamak) wants me and Peter (Storrie, the club chairman) wants me," he told the Daily Star.

"I think everybody is with me at the moment and I even think the crowd want me as well, although there are always one or two idiots.

"So, no, I don't feel under pressure. None at all really.

"I'm enjoying the experiences and I expect I'll have many more.

"I don't really read a lot of the criticism, but I wouldn't take a lot of notice because I know people want me to do this job and I'm still doing it.

"I believe the majority of people want me to do it at the moment and I'll just get on with it until I'm told different."

The former Arsenal centre-back has experienced success at the highest level having spent 19 seasons as a regular in the heart of the Gunners defence and collecting 66 England caps.

But so far Adams' managerial career has proven a stumbling block after an uneasy year at Wycombe and now an uncertain few months at Fratton Park.

"I think that the argument just doesn't stand up that, because I was a top player, I'm expected to be a top manager," Adams countered.

"Of course it's different being a manager than being a player, but I'm growing and loving every experience. I have got a lot of work to do here.

"There are 10 clubs with similar circumstances to us - a 30 per cent chance of going down at the start of the season - but we will be okay."
