Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson is poised to join Middlesbrough.
The two clubs have concurred on a deal that will net the Championship club in the region of £2million.
Boro had a bid rejected earlier in the week but have now come back with a more agreeable offer.
Boro's interest in the 23-year-old and the player could now be available to figure in the club's FA Cup tie at Wolves on Saturday.
Boro boss Gareth Southgate has been on the lookout for a midfield ball-winner having never adequately replaced George Boateng and Lee Cattermole, who both quit the club in the summer.
Didier Digard and Mohamed Shawky have also featured heavily, but neither have been able to fill the void and thus, Southgate has moved for the Palace star.
Gary O'Neil has been used in a central position this season but could now find himself shifted out wide right in order to accommodate Watson.
