Middlesbrough midfielder Josh Walker is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed he suffered torn ankle ligaments during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
Walker was making his first start in the Premier League but was forced off early in the second half of the Tees-Wear derby.
A specialist determined the England youth international has torn lateral ligaments in his left ankle, with the club yet to put a timescale on his absence as the injury is still being assessed.
Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Didier Digard, who was taken off after 65 minutes after taking a heavy blow to the head, will be fit for Saturday's trip to West Brom.
