Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic is confident that the club's 3-0 win over Chelsea will signal the end of their goal shy run.
The match was the first time the Red Devils had scored more than once in a Premier League match since the middle of November when they put five past Stoke.
Despite a surprising lack of goals, given their star studded attack, United have managed to keep eight clean sheets in succession in the league.
The result on Sunday, where Vidic claimed the invaluable opener on the stroke of half-time, means that United can now go top of the table before current leaders Liverpool play their next fixture against Everton next Monday.
"We have needed to score more," the 27-year-old admitted.
"This season the problem has been scoring at the right times. If you can get one in the first half the other team has to open up a bit more to chase the result.
"Once we get into that situation we are very dangerous because we have such great attacking players.
"That is what we have finally managed to do. That early goal is crucial because so often this season the opposition has pulled 11 men behind the ball and we have found it hard to break them open."
The same is likely to happen on Wednesday when United are set to play one of their games in hand against Wigan at Old Trafford.
Despite Wigan winning six out of their last seven league games, Steve Bruce's men are expected to revert to a more defensive style against the champions.
But Vidic knows that if United harbour ambitions of securing their third straight Premier League crown they need to overcome resolute sides, especially at home.
"It was an important weekend because Liverpool only drew at Stoke and we beat Chelsea but we don't look at our opponents," Vidic added.
"We just have to concentrate on ourselves. We still have some big teams to play at Old Trafford and the results depend on us, not them."
