Torres - I am not the star

Fernando Torres insists every player is of equal importance at Anfield as Liverpool go in search of Premier League glory.

Rafa Benitez's Reds currently top the table by three points over rivals Chelsea and are on course to secure a first league title since 1990.

Torres is expected to play a major part in his side's bid for silverware in the second half of the season after returning from a six-week hamstring injury.

But the Spanish striker - who scored 24 Premier League goals in his debut campaign in England - is adamant that success will require a team effort.

He told the club's official website: "A Benitez team is never just about one player but about the group. We have a solid unit that knows how to win games playing our way.

"We have beaten the big teams without me and on occasions without (Steven) Gerrard, like the game against Manchester United. I think that was a positive for the team as a whole; it illustrated that importance of every player in the squad.

"Everyone is important here, we are working towards the same goal of ensuring that Liverpool win the Premier League. If we are able to achieve this it will have been a joint effort - no one player will take the most credit. It is a group effort."

And Torres - who scored the winning goal in the final of Euro 2008 last summer - is eager to secure the league title so that he and his team-mate can go down in Merseyside history.

He added: "Having won the European Championship with Spain I have experienced what it is like to be part of a generation of players that will never be forgotten.

"I think that the same could be said of this Liverpool team if we can win the league. If we can do it we will be remembered for many years in the hearts of Liverpool fans."
