Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie acknowledges there is a 'possibility' that Jermaine Pennant will become a permanent signing at Fratton Park.
The out-of favour Liverpool winger made a loan switch to the South Coast earlier this week as he goes in search of first-team football.
Pennant has previously stated that he sees his long-term future at Anfield, while Pompey insisted that a deal for the 26-year-old was only ever going to be on an initial quick-fix basis.
Storrie, though, admits that if both parties view Pennant's time with Pompey as a success, the move could be extended.
"It's always a possibility Jermaine could become a permanent signing. We will look at that at the end of the season," Storrie told The News.
"If Jermaine enjoys it down here and thinks it could benefit his career to stay, then we will look at that in due course.
"It's good for both parties to have a look at each other and we will see how we go."
Storrie also insists Portsmouth did not struggle to persuade Pennant to move and he expects the former Leeds and Birmingham player to prove a success.
He said: "There was never an issue getting him to the club - he certainly didn't need any convincing.
"He was very keen to come and very pleased to join because Tony (Adams) had been chasing him for quite a while.
"I'm sure Jermaine Pennant will be a good signing for us. He's got flair, ability and pace."
